BUILDING 703 DORMITORY

Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada

WERK | urban design is collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team at Burns & McDonnell to add an approximately 25,000 sf activity field, two 30’x40’ shade structures, grilling area, seating, bike parking, landscape, and bioretention. WERK was integral in the discussions that led to the revision of the original building and site layout during the charette process by utilizing 3D renderings and knowledge of active and passive best management practices for landscape design specific to the region.

Part of our advocacy was for the use of passive cooling systems for pedestrians and users of the open spaces as well as the collection of stormwater to supplement irrigation requirements for the activity field and use of a bioswale to convey water to a larger retention system and away from the building.
