The Clayton on Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza is a new multi-story, mixed-use building containing retail and hospitality space. The design approach was to develop an attractive environment while maintaining direct sight lines to Civic Center Plaza. Plant material will be contextual to the iconic aesthetic of Scottsdale. The landscape will be seasonally colorful with shade provided for pedestrians moving to and through the site. Gateway features and enhanced paving materials along the alley on the western periphery will engage visitors at the pedestrian scale while remaining functional for multi-modal traffic and general back-of-house service. Breeze block walls and laser-cut metal panels integrated into the overall design provide partial screening while utilizing light and plant movement as artistic expressions.
